Race Report – 4th March 2024

Back by popular demand is the Team Blizard race report!

It may have been a week or two since our last race report but this week more than makes up for a short absence!

Reporting all races in distance order this week we kick off the report with a big shoutout to all those who did the Kimmy Kanter held on Sunday.

This popular local race continues to be a firm favourite with local runners and well done to all those who raced it.

Next distance we move up to is the 10k where we saw a  return to racing for Derby based coached athlete Paul Massey who opened his 2024 account with an excellent run in the Cyprus 10k.

A little nearer home in Manchester saw the very fast Trafford 10k host their annual race and it did not disappoint with fast times as ever.

First home from the team was another coached athlete in Sam Gilliver who smashed his personal best while former work experience Cam Reilly shaped up perfectly for next week’s Inter Counties with a fine run.

There were lifetime personal bests from Dean Thomas and Sam Davis while fresh from our trip to Portugal, Danny James and Mike Skelton both had great races.

Moving up again in distance to the half marathon we saw race machine Viv Fraser record a great run in the Berko half marathon while over on the coast saw the first running in the Middleboro half marathon.

There was a lifetime personal best making it 3 personal bests in 3 races since coming onto the coaching program for Brad Walker as we used the race as a stepping stone to the marathon as did Ian Maudsley, Tracey Gibson and a special mention to Dawn Harrison who completed her first ever race and gave a great account of herself as did all the mentioned.

Finally moving up again in distance and kicking off this year’s marathon season we saw athletes compete in the Tokyo marathon.

Coached athlete Rach McCluskey ran another fine race while Simon “Ginger Flyer” Kendall had the honour of making it his 6th and final Major to earn himself that very special medal.

It really is impossible to pick out this weeks “Run of the week” so we thought we would share that title between a few athletes and naming them as they all ran very special races for different reasons:

Simon Kendall 6th Major marathon

Tracey Gibson on 2nd V55 and 2nd fastest half marathon time ever after coming back from major injury

Sam Gilliver 10k

Brad Walker 3 races and 3 pbs since becoming coached

Until next week……..keep training!
