Team Blizard Race Report

Speed was the name of the game this week with so many of the team competing over generally shorter distances now that we are in the summer months!

Mid week track racing is popular with several fast paced race available to run in and it proved happy hunting ground over in Trafford , Manchester where rising star Alice Fearn ran another pb this time over 1500m and this run was backed up by Leeds athlete Jon Stewart as his racing season gets underway.

Friday evening provided a couple of 5k races to report from with the ever popular York 5k on the cycle track proved a great venue for coached athlete Elle Warren to show she is fully recovered from her excellent London marathon while over in the Twilight 5k in Birmingham saw another athlete returning to racing after their marathon exploited in Nathan Doy run a fine race in windy conditions.

Going longer distances and away from the track for a moment saw the annual Barnsley Boundary race take place with a winning home team of Barnsley take top honors helped by an excellent leg from Michael Grain.

There were another two 5k road races to mention and both proved to be excellent races for coached athletes with Keri Pearson taking 3rd position in the Riverside 5k in Middlesboro’ while in the super fast Podium 5k there was a super close finish for two more coached athletes in the shape of Freddie Fearn and Sam Gilliver with just a few seconds separating them but both coming away with brand new personal best times!

A special mention needs to go to another training partner in the team in Rob Barnes who took his season’s best down a few seconds in the Northern league 800 in a time that ranks very high in the UK for his age.

However, this week’s “Run of the Week” is a joint title that goes to both Jody Murray and Susie Hinchliffe who were the joint male/female winners of the very last running of the Barnsdale Bar 5 mile road race.

This race has been held annually since 1981 and was created by Pat O’Grady who has since passed away but did a huge amount for athletics in the local area and it is fitting that this final running of the race he founded features in our race report.

Massive well done to all those who raced and thank you to everyone who took time to send in your results as it really helps.

Until next week……keep training!
