Race Report – 2nd July 2024

Blizard Race Report

We have another bumper race report for you this week as you guys have been super busy racing up and down the country over a variety of distances and surfaces!

Kicking off the week on the same night as England were playing on Tuesday we saw the ever popular Lincoln 5k series take place on the cycle track close to the running stadium where despite very hot conditions we saw great runs from Dean ThomasJayne Baldwin and Tracey Gibson to name 3 of the athletes  running.

Mid week races at this time of the year are very popular and the Leeds Mile held in Hyde Park provided some fast running for coached athletes Jonathan Stewart and Aaron Lowery who both gave a good account of themselves.

The Elmton Chase is a popular off-road event this time of the year and so many of you used it as a good blast out with eye-catching runs from both Malc Stapleton and Dawn Bradley allowing them to get into the prizes and take home a bottle of wine for their efforts!

Staying with the off-road theme, Saturday and Sunday saw the running of the Round Sheffiled event where there were sooooo many of you racing but everyone from the pictures seemed to have a good day out even if it was super hilly in places!

Moving onto the tarmac and there were several races on Sunday to report from and the first was the Derby 5mile/half marathon on the super fast course that started and finished for both races close to the cathedral.

Coached athlete Paul Massey took the v70 title as we begin his preparation towards the Valencia marathon in December while North Derbyshire duo of Shaun Johnson and Dawn Bradley continued their fine form with both athletes take a lifetime pb over the half marathon distance as did Sheffield athlete Chris Johnson.

Many moons ago the best quality road racing in the North of England was to be found in Barnsley mainly to the recently passed away race director Max McNally who was a driving force for road running in this area.

It was fitting so soon after his passing that the Barnsley 10k was relaunched and it was great to see so many athletes supporting this race.

With so many of the training group and coached athletes running there is too many to mention every single one of you but some of the eye catching runs we saw came from Michael Whole Grain Richard CopleyNathan DoyJoe RestellShaun Paul YatesLydia Race Tighe and Brad Walker to name just a small section of you who ran so well.

This week’s race report finishes up with a couple of track races to mention firstly, in the Northern Master event over in Leigh where regular Friday night member Simon Oak took the V50 800 title so massive well done to him and coach Nigel Brookes and to Jon Steward won took the V40 3000 title with an impressive sprint finish.
