Race Report – 3rd June 2025

Team Blizard Race Report

Once again we have had a fantastic week of races from the guys within the Team Blizard community of runners and a massive well done to all of you and thank you to those who sent in their race results as it really does help us!

Kicking off the week we saw two 5k races take place with the ever popular return of the Lincoln 5k series on the cycle path where runners were met with heavy rain but we saw a fab run from Anna Thompson who ran her fastest 5k for  many years despite the rain since her lactate threshold test.

Same distance but this time over in Leeds it was great to see “Young Wolf” Lucus Davies smash his 5k best time and show that warm weather training in Portugal paid off!

Doubling the distance to 10k over at Hull we saw coached athlete from East Hull John Podgornyi take a huge amount off his best time and showing he has recovered well from the Vienna marathon.

A little more local saw a couple of trail races take place in the Scholes Coppice and Gerald Storey races where so many of you ran in and well done to everyone who raced as there are so many of you.

Saturday saw the running of the Stockholm marathon where class regular Andy Hopper made light work of the very hot conditioning which seems to be a part of marathon running this spring to run his 2nd marathon in a few short weeks and now deserves a bit of a rest!

The Grimsby 10k took place on Sunday and we think this is a great race with potential to run fast time if the weather/wind is favourable.

Once again there are so many stand out performances and a short selection no no order came from Danny James, James Biggin taking 1stV50, Wayne Singleton,Joe Restell and Tracey Gibson taking the 1st V60 but the list could go on and on with so many great runs from you all.

A big well done to all of you who raced there and make sure you recover fully before training hard again.

However, as always we like to pick one standout performance weekly for our “Run of the Week” and this week it goes to supported athlete from London in Alex Mackula who took the 1stV40 in the Hyde Park 5k race.

Alex has had a terrible last couple of years with a back injury and to still be running is fantastic but he has worked so hard to return his fitness doing the Blizard Run Club classes online when he could not run to build strength and then slowly adding more and more running and it is great to see such a great success story and a well deserved title this week.

As always well done to everyone who raced and long may this good form continue.

Until next week…..keep training!
