Race Report 19th June 2023

Team Blizard Race Report

This week once again we celebrate the individual achievements of the running community who have connections to the clinic and training group.

We have a race report that covers nearly every surface and many distances.

The first set of races to report about took place on the track and kicking off the week’s action was the mid week BMC meeting at Loughboro’ where our very own Jenny Blizard ran in the mixed 5000m. Although, disappointed with her time  slightly Jenny had no need to be as her time took her to 2nd on the ladies UK V45 ranking for this year!

Staying with the track and moving into Sunday saw the regional Northern league races and once again Jenny was in action for her club Rotherham Harriers but this time in Sheffield over both the 1500 and 3k which saw her use all her racing experience to register two good runs.

Another track athlete in Leeds runner Jon Stweart opened his summer track racing with a fine mens 1500m and we look forward to some fast times this year from him.

Changing surfaces to fells saw the ever popular Grindleford Fell race take place mid week where there was a great turn out of local athletes with Tom Shaw and Seth Kirby both having solid runs.

Two coached athletes on the comeback trail took part in the Eye 5k and it was great to see long time supporters of the clinic in Yvonne Scarrot and Eric Winstone pull on a racing vest and long may that continue.

Same distance but different venue over 5k saw Portugal bound athlete and Cleethorpes runner Danny James run really well in the Podium 5k.

Run over a new course which seemed to suit many people was the Leeds 10k where prolific racer from the same club as Danny Cleethorpes saw Callum Ely run a fine race to show he is fully over his recent marathon effort.

Another coached athlete that needs a mention from this race is Rome Doisneau who has been very ill recently and pulled a fantastic run out of the bag to show that he is nearly back to full fitness.

However, this week’s “Run of the week” goes to Worksop Harrier Tom Shaw with his win in the 3 Lakes Classic trail race.

A big few months are ahead of this athlete and watch this space!
