Race Report – 3rd December 2024

Team Blizard Race Report

While a large number of the team were in York this weekend “celebrating” a year of great results, there was still some action to be had and races to be run from many of you!

Kicking the week off on Wednesday saw Leeds athlete Shane Grace race over 5k down in Battersea Park, London over 5k and give a great performance as he returns to form.

There were a couple of cross country events worth mentioning including the Leeds University relays where Romany Tune  put in a storming leg for her Newcastle team.

Over on the grass around Pontefract racecourse was the next venue in the popular PECO cross country league and we saw good runs once again from Will SykesIan Maudsley and Emma Smith all who are regular training partners to many of you.

Moving up in distance to 10k the first race to mention is the ever popular Edwinstowe race where so many of you ran but there were a couple of eye catching performance we saw from Tom Shaw and Tamara Hazlehurst who once again smashed her best time and is in a real purple patch leading into her first ever London marathon next year.

There really is too many of you to mention who took part in the annual Percy Pud 10k over in Sheffield so well done to everyone who raced with a special mention to:

The final race to mention and one that brings what has been the best ever marathon seasons performances from the team since the clinic first opened is the Valencia event.

Unsure until recently if the event would go ahead but to the problems they have had with floods in recent weeks.

North Derbyshire athlete Neil Yewman put in a fine performance in the city that is becoming famous for fast times and this was also reflected by a massive new personal best from Cleethorpes athlete and Portugal attendee Danny James who took an impressive nearly 8 minutes off his previous best to stop the clock in an impressive 2.32hrs despite being full of cold!

However, this week’s “Run of the Week” goes to another coached athlete in Caistor’s Tracey Fearn who ran a fantastic 3.12hrs to take 4th place in the ladies V55 age group and round off a fantastic marathon season from the team.
