Race Report 28th March 2022

This week’s race report has a bit of everything thrown in over a variety of locations, distances and surfaces.

The weekend kicked off on Saturday firstly with the ever popular Monsal Trail half marathon where we saw Clowne athlete Giles Searby reduce his new personal best from Retford earlier in the month as he rounds into great shape for his marathon in Boston in a few weeks time.

This time of year up and down the country  the area road relay championships are held.

Over at Sutton Park we saw Notts AC athlete Marti Whitehouse show the time spent in Portugal on our warm weather training camp paid off as she sped around the undulating loop in the Midland championships.

Moving into Sunday a few athletes were using the Conistone 14 as a longer effort and the weather was very kind for them in the lake district.

The Northern version of the road relays were once again held in Birkenhead Park, Liverpool as several of the training group headed over to race both long and short legs for their respective club.

The trio of Rotherham ladies in Keri Pearson, Nicola Devine and our very own Jenny Blizard helped take 6th overall position in the ladies race while a superb run on the opening leg for the Rotherham Men’s team came from in form Lee Milburn.

Sponsored athlete Tom Halloway used the race as a sharpener for his forthcoming marathon as Chris Griffiths wizzed round the short loop while coach Tune turned out for the Rotherham Men’s team.

A sterling run was had by Leeds athlete Jon Stewart to help his team to a great result.

A little nearer home saw the return of the Sheffield half marathon on the tough “up and down” course.

Manvers athlete Danny Smith produced another quality performance as did coached athlete Seth Kirby who smashed his personal best.

However, this week’s “Run of the week” goes to long time training partner Sarah Lowery who took the overall ladies win in a great time.

Next week sees the first of the marathon races and with so many athletes running we think next week’s race report is going to be a bumper!
