Team Blizard Race Report

The Lionesses triumphed in Basel last night but we have had a full week of superb performances from the athletes of Team Blizard to celebrate!

We have several races over all sorts of distances to report from so here goes:

Friday night saw the popular Newstead Abbey 5k race take place where there was a fine showing and some super fast times and new personal best times recorded from many of you.

Worksop Harriers were in force led by “captain “ Tom Shaw who ran his fastest time on the course and was backed up by recent lactate tester Gabbie Bower and Lucy Binch who both came away with a new personal best time.

That man Tom Shaw got around a bit and on Sunday came a fine 3rd place overall in the Northumberland Coastal half marathon running some 3 minutes faster than last year on the same course.

Another athlete enjoying a fantastic 2025 is coached athlete Dean Thomas who recorded yet another new personal best in the Heckington Show 10 mile road race.

Moving more over to the East coast now as we have a couple of races taking place over on that side of the country!

The first was the Easingwold 10k trail race over a very undulating course where Madeleine Stansfield not only took time out of her holiday to run it but also took her age group V70 win!

The South Cave 10k road race held from South Cave castle was the perfect setting for City of Hull athlete Dale Bridges to smash his personal best time over the 10k distance and a well deserved pb it was coming back from injury.

Massive well done to all those who took part in the Leeds Ironman triathlon on what was a tough course and special shoutout for long term training partner to many of you over the years in Richard Chandler who completed the event but we refuse to have him back training if he has a tattoo !

The final race to mention was actually the first race of the week that took place on Wednesday evening at the Brownlee centre over the 5k distance.

We had three coached athletes running and all ran really well with Matt Taylor recording one of his fastest ever times while in marathon mode while Leeds based Massi Federici ran a huge new personal best time.

However, this week’s “Run of the Week” goes to Sheffield athlete Kevin Walker who ran a huge new personal best time of 16.36mins to take the V50 age group win and this week’s title!
