Race Report 25th March 2024

Team Blizard Race Report

Road racing is in full swing with races up and down the country and many thanks to all of you who sent in your latest race results as it really helps us to pull them all together.

Kicking off the weekend action saw the return to the newly formed DonFaster 5k held by Danum Harriers on the cycle track.

It was another very successful evening of racing where we saw great runs from training partners David SedgwickDavid Varley and Lee Davies and also father and son combo of Andy Ely and Callum Ely all tearing up the tarmac to name a few of the eye catching runs!

Saturday as well as Park run saw the area 12 stage relays being held and we had a fine representation in both the Northern relays in Manchester and the Midland relays in Sutton Coldfield with local team successfully getting through to the National final in a couple of week’s time.

Moving up distances to the 10k and Sunday brought several 10k races up and down the country and well done to all those who raced in the Derby 10k, Chesterfield 10k, Wakefield 10k and Cheshire Elite 10k as there were some fantastic results from you all.

A little near home we saw the next round of running of the “Hell on the Humber” which for those of you who do not know is an ultra event held running back and forth across the famous Humber Bridge and regular racer to our page Vivienne Fraser made her mark on the event.

Staying with longer distance races recent lactate test attendee Neil Yewman made it 2×20 mile races in 2 weeks as he took on the tough Spen 20 which is not an easy course so well done that man!

The final race to mention is the ever popular and fast Wilmslow half marathon which has been a firm fixture in the racing diary for many years as athletes can use it as they build up towards a marathon or just as a fast course.

Racing machines Andy and Callum Ely were at it again fresh from their good runs on Friday night in the more picturesque surroundings of Doncaster but taking this week’s “Run of the Week” is Cleethorpes athlete and recent member of our Portugal trip Danny James who not only ran a new personal best but broke the long standing Cleethorpes AC record with his fine performance.
