Race Report – 23rd July 2024

Team Blizard Race Report

The weather last week matched the performances seen by so many of you over the last 7 days…..RED HOT!

Kicking the week off saw many of our friends from Leeds side take part in the Golden Arces Relay race held in Leeds and a fun evening of racing was had by many of you!

The ever popular Laxton 10k proved to be a great success for the Team with some great runs in very hot conditions. It was good to see regular training partner James Fisher returning to  racing with a fine run as well as from Cleethorpe’s athlete Dean Thomas who also ran well.

Backing these two runs up we saw victories in their respective age groups from the daughter/mum duo of Alice/Tracey Fearn and super vet Malc Stapleton taking the V60 1st place as we built his training towards the Berlin marathon in September.

The Portugal duo training partners of Tracey Gibson and Gill Askham both ran well in the very hilly Click’em 5 mile road race held on the Wolds mid week while there were several of you racing the other mid week races at Hardwick and Nostell Priory 10k road races and well done to your all.

Prolific racer Vivianne Fraser was in action in York in the 6hrs York Challenge where she finished an impressive 2nd place overall and taking the winning lady and just missing out on our “ROTW”

Moving up North and coached athlete Tom Shaw made light work of tough under foot conditions in the Northumberland Coastal Half marathon coming a fine 3rd place overall.

However, this week’s “Run of the Week” goes to Retford AC athlete “Pink Bird” Dawn Keeligan who ran nearly a 30 minute personal best time over the marathon as she used the Sherwood Pines off road marathon as a training run as we built up towards the Yorkshire marathon in October.

This lady simply has made massive improvements in the last few months with her commitment to her running is a great example to us all, well done Pink Bird!!!!!
