				Pregnancy Related Pain
- During pregnancy 20% of women experience pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain / pelvic girdle pain (PRGP/PGP). PRGP also used to be called symphysis pubis dysfunction or SPD. If you are feeling pain in your pubic bone, groin, hips, buttocks and/ or tail bone it may be that this is due to pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain.
- More common during pregnancy is lumbopelvic pain (pain in the lower back and/or back of the pelvis). This happens for 50% of pregnant women.
- Wrist symptoms. In pregnancy, due to the increase in swelling, 1/3 of women can suffer with carpal tunnel syndrome as a result of compression in the tunnel of the wrist leading to numbness pain and weakness.
- Rib pain. Women commonly feel tenderness in their ribs, upper abdomen or middle of the back between the shoulders and low back. This can be due to the growing baby taking up space in the abdomen. It can be due to stiffness, weakness, stretching or injury. This is in addition to postural changes.
- Diastasis Recti (tummy separation).
These symptoms can happen during and after pregnancy and physiotherapy can help.
