Blizard Race Report 7th March 2022

race report Mar 07, 2022

Grab a brew, sit down as this week’s “Race Report” is a long one to read through!

As always we start off by apologizing if we miss anyone off as there has been so many of you racing this weekend it really is impossible to mention everyone but we are going to try and give you our best “snapshot summary”.

The first event to report from is the Mallory Park duathlon where regular training partner “Robbo” Roberts competed and showed he is just at home on a bike as he is running by turning in a fine performance.

Regular Friday night Blizard Run Club member David Butler pulled on his racing shoes for the first time since his marathon and took the V65 win in the Rother Valley 10k race showing that the strength and conditioning work he puts in is really helping.

The ever popular Norton 9 road race proved a happy hunting ground for the members of Team Blizard as coached athlete Shane Grace came 3rd overall and took the V40 1st prize while Lee Varley and Mark Lawton both produced course personal bests for fine runs.

Over on the other side of the Pennines saw the super fast Trafford 10k take place where we had several athletes running including our very own supported athlete Tom Halloway who was using the race in preparation for his upcoming marathon in May while another coached athlete Tracey Fearne took a huge chunk of her personal best to break under 39mins for the first time and claim 3rd place in the V50 age group.

Onto the local Retford half marathon which we as a clinic we were lucky enough to support Dave Corbett and his team again this year which once again was an excellently executed event.

There really were so many of you running that the report would just go on and on for ever so we thought we would just try and bullet point some of the results;

Tom Shaw county bronze medal in Notts championships - 1:13:00

Chris Griffiths aged 45 lifetime pb - 1:13:32

Nicola Devine 1st lady new pb - 1:18:00

Keri Pearson 3rd lady new pb - 1:20:47

Jenny Blizard 4th lady fastest time since 2013 - 1:22:08

Andy Teasdale 7mins pb - 1:19:47

Malc Stapleton lifetime pb aged 58 - 1:26:25

Andrew Kitchen 4 mins pb aged 49 - 1:33:16

Chris Inman - lifetime pb - 1:41:34

Shaun Johnson - lifetime pb - 1:45:33

Jane Hare 1.47hrs in her first ever half marathon

Paul Massey fastest time in 28 years in V65 age group - 1:55:54

As you can see we had a fantastic day in the office with so many great runs and the above is just a very small flavor of what so many of you ran and once again sorry we cannot mention every single one of you.

However, this week’s “Run of the week” goes to a coached athlete who thoroughly deserves the attention given to his run. Over in the Trafford 10k road race sponsored athlete Lee Milburn ran the race of his life to sneak under 30mins barrier for the 10k distance for the very first time stopping the clock in 29.58mins.

Lee has had to change his training around recently due to him and his wife Danielle welcoming their first child into the family mix.

Lee joined the training group back in 2018 when his personal best stood just under 34 minutes and his patient approach to his training is an example to everyone what consistent training can achieve.

Phew! That has been a busy weekend and until the next one……keep training!
