Track Day

Track Day

Today it was all about the track session. For many of the group this was going to be a big training day!

The weather conditions were perfect, a beautiful blue sky with just a hint of a breeze.

Breakfast was a relaxed affair with everyone fuelling and preparing. Then it was a short stroll to the local track for a 10am start. The group had been split into two. The first doing 800 and 1000m intervals. When that group had finished, the second group of 6 who were doing a 10 mile total, made up of a pyramid of distances with a 5k all out effort to finish, started.  Any track sessions success is built on your ability to control your pace, and not going out too hard at the start. Everyone absolutely nailed it!

To bring the session to a close, we had a Beer Mile challenge. There were only 3 entries to this race. The world record is just over 4 minutes for the mile, and today it was under threat of being broken. The rules are simple, you have to drink a 350ml beer at the start of each lap, and run 4 laps to complete the mile. There was a clear leader at half way who evidently had been in full training for this event for months. The clock stopped at 7:33 for his beer mile, a winner by almost a lap and a pb. When interviewed by the local press he said he would be back next year and hoped there would be more contestants. He was quoted as saying “he did it for the vegans!”

Here’s our champion focused and in full flight!

After a fun morning everyone took time to chill eating lunch by the marina or at the hotels Spa. Today was an ice cream sort of day!

It wasn’t long before we were all gathered back in the Hotel grounds to listen to the second of Dave’s talks, about having a positive mindset in your running. Motivational and made you consider your own training.
Dave does look like he’s yawning on this photo, but he was in fact just talking!

The second run of the day, a relaxed 30 minutes had only a few takers today. Those that had worked hard today were encouraged to enjoy a few hours extra relaxation.

Dinner and an early night, ready for a more easy paced running day tomorrow with the added game of Crazy Golf. What a great fun packed day we have had!
