Blizard Race Report!

Well we have had another bumper week of racing from the guys and girls of the Team Blizard community!
Although, not that many races to report from the quality was very high and a big well done to everyone who raced.

The first race to report from is the Selby Park. We don’t usually include Park Run results in our round up but we thought the run from York athlete Vivianne Fraser deserved a mention as running in her 270th Park run event she only went and won  the race coming home 1st lady which is an amazing achievement and well done!

Staying on the Saturday’s events the next race to mention was the super fast Bassingham Bash 5 mile road race which is organized by a good supporter of the clinic in Bill Taylor and his team of athletes.
A 5 mile road race was a very popular distance to run a few years ago and it is great that this one has survived and is held on the flat roads not too far away from Newark.
Several members of the team raced including in order of how they finished Freddie Fearn, Mike Skelton, Coach Tune our very own Jenny Blizard who went 2nd on the UK ranking with her excellent time, Alice Fearn and Andrew Kitchen who ran a lifetime personal best.
This is definitely one to put into your diary for next year and is a great little event.

Moving into Sunday and a slightly unusual event to report from featuring long time Blizard Run Club member Julie Taylor who used all that strength she has gained on those Friday night’s classes to do the Rutland Water swim making light work of the challenging conditions.

Next up is the ever popular York 10k held on the twisty course around the historic city.
There were so many of you racing it is hard to mention everyone but the more eye catching performances came from the in form Callum Ely who went under 34 mins, Rome Doisneau,Simon Kendall,Aaron Lowery,Paul Massey, Brenda King, David Butler and Rachael McCluskey to name just a fraction of those who ran.

The final race to report from and the one that takes the award of “Run of the Week” goes to another athlete who we see week in and week out on the Blizard Run Club platform working hard on his strength and conditioning in Simon Oak.
Simon and his excellent coach Nigel Brooks have worked hard to get the just rewards of him being selected to run for the North of England Masters at the weekend over 1500m on the track. Simon will not mind us telling you this was his first 1500m since school and now as a V50 is a real achievement to both athlete and coach , well done!

Until next week everyone…..keep training!
