Team Blizard Race Report

We have another bumper report for all the members of the Team Blizard community who have raced in the last 7 days.

The first race to report from is the ever popular Leeds Country Way relay that took place over a multi terrain surface in West Yorkshire.
The Leeds running club St Theresa’s who are great supporters of the clinic had a fantastic day in both the Men’s and Women’s races with the guys taking the vet title and enjoying a beer together after  which is a very important part of any racing program!

Moving down distances slightly to the half marathon saw in London Sir Mo Farah’s last race around the streets of the capital in the Big Half race.
Our very own Matt Hamer made the long trip down worthwhile to post an excellent run and bounce right back into form just when he needs to before the Berlin marathon in a couple of weeks.

Down distances again to the 10k’s and the first race to report from was the Broughten Burn 10k where in form Wes Taylor once again made it onto the podium with a fine 3rd place overall.

The Wilne 10k has over the years proved to be a fast course and this year was no expectation although hot running conditions put price to super fast times.
Here we saw a solid run only 7 days since his fine pb in the Antrim half from coached athlete Sam Gilliver while his run was quickly backed up by Derby’s Paul Massey and a welcome return to racing for Marti Whitehouse.
A special mention needs to go to winning lady Becky Gallop and her coach Bill Taylor who showed fine form in taking the overall ladies win and backed up the excellent number she showed on the treadmill earlier in the week as her final preparation for the Berlin marathon are coming together perfectly.

Tholthorpe 10k was the next setting to report from as it took an Eithiopian distance runner to deny coached athlete Rome Doisneau from taking the win for the second year on a trot and his run was backed up by a solid effort from Jody Murray who is on the comeback trail.

The final 10k to report from is the fast Middlesboro’ 10k which sits nicely the week before the GNR for many athletes.
Leeds runner Aaron Lowery was using it as a final blast out before next week’s race and ran his best race for a long time to come into form just at the right time while Al Reid smashed his personal best in a race he was taking it easy in!
Cleethorpe’s athlete celebrated his birthday early by also running a pb and now enters into a marathon mode aiming at the Valencia race in December.

However, this week's “Run of the week” is a joint title given to two very different athletes that raced and pb in Park runs over the weekend.
We don’t usually include Park Runs into our report as the list would go on and on forever with so many of you using them regularly!
Over in Brigg young Lucas Davies led from gun to tape to take the win and register a new personal best . While in Dalby Forest Scarboro athlete, Andy Hooper and regular member of the Blizard Run club showed not only did all that strength work pay off but those speed sessions back in Portugal allowed him to break his pb and run into some excellent form just before his annual pilgrimage to the North East and the GNR!

Well done everyone who raced and a big weekend of racing coming up so let’s keep these excellent results coming in.
Until next week…..keep training!
