Race Report 5th July 2022

race report Jul 05, 2022

This week’s Race Report has action up and down the country over all sorts of distances for us to catch up with in what has been an extremely busy last week of racing from the athletes of TeamBlizard!

Kicking off the week saw the very welcome return of the Dam Flask relay held in the lovely setting of Low Bradfield despite that horrible hill near the finish line. There simply too many people to mention who ran for their club so let’s say a massive well done to you all!

Blizzard Run club regular attendee Shaun Johnson should that his strength work is paying off with a great run in the “No Walk in the Park” 5k and taking a season’s best to boot.

The next two races to report on were over the classic 10k distance and a fine run was had in the Great North 10k from Derby athlete Paul Massey as he tackles his 4th race in as many weeks!

The Leeds 10k saw a host of Blizard athletes running including our very own sponsored Matt Hamer using it as a bit of speed before heading into marathon mode soon, while a massive “doth the cap” to Sue Crabtree who lead one of the pacing groups and great to see you hitting the pavements Sue!

Coached athlete Rome Doisneau from Scarboro’ will be a contender for athlete of the year the way he is improving as his clock stopping effort took him not only to a new personal best but also a top 10 finishing position.

Ashbourne half marathon was the venue on Sunday for yet another great run from the inform Seth Kirby of Steel City Striders as he enjoys a massive purple patch of results in the last few weeks/months.

A very early start on Sunday saw another coached athlete in Andrew Kitchen compete in the Windermere triathlon and produce arguably his best ever triathlon which reflects the hard work he has put in over the last couple of years.

Moving nearer to home and to the coast saw yet another great run from Caistor’s Tracey Fearn in the flat but sometimes windy Withernsea 5 mile road race where she managed to take the V50 1st place and 3rd lady overall in a super fast time that takes her into the UK top 10 rankings for the year so far.

The final two races to report on are over 5k distance and the first is a massive well done shout out to Leeds athlete Shane Grace who was racing down in Tenby gaining his first ever Master’s England vest. Shane had a fine run and was comfortably in 2nd place with 400m to go before being directed wrongly to the finish area but we know he will bounce back even stronger in the races he has planned.

However, “Run of the week” goes to coached athlete Scotty Burrell who was racing the Podium 5k over in Leicester. In wet and windy conditions Scott managed to not only smash his previous personal best but also took 2nd place overall in his race with a very strong finish. This is the athlete who out in Portugal back in February said his dream was to get on the podium in a race and not he seems to be managing ever time he turns out and totally deserves the run of the week. Keep those results coming in and as ever sorry if we have missed anyone it is hard at times keeping up with you all!! Until next week………keep training!
