Race Report 5th December 2022

Dec 05, 2022

It might be getting colder outside but the action once again this weekend has been red hot from the guys from Team Blizard.

Kicking off the weekend’s action was the ever popular No Walk in the Park 5k at Chesterfield where North Derbyshire duo of John Sanderson and Shaun Johnson continued their great form with both running well and John taking the overall win!

The numbers down training on Saturday this week were light mainly due to the fact that nearly all the training team were over in Sheffield on Sunday racing the Percy Pud 10k!

Cold and wet conditions met the runners but that did not damper the performances and please forgive us we cannot mention every single one of you as there were simply too many of you racing but a few of the standout performances came from:

Daniel Smith of Team Mavers who ran under 34 mins for the first time

A great return to form from Tom Shaw

V45 win for coached athlete Chris Griffiths

Sarah Lowery in her first race since the marathon took 2nd place V40

Stuart Carrick/Shaun Carley/Becky Friar all smashing their previous pbs

1st V45 Nat Neville

Great runs from Steve Maddock/Pat Ennis/Adam Connelly/Steve McCleavy/Gav Edley/Matt Hamer to name just a few!

Those xmas puds will taste even better knowing everyone worked hard for them!

The final race to report from is quickly turning into “THE” place to go to in the world to run a fast time over 10k/half and full marathon and is from the city of Valencia.

The winning times in both the Men’s and Women’s races from debut athletes ranked 3rd on both lists world all times which tells you everything.

Coached athlete Paul Massey finished off what has been an unbelievable last twelve months where he has pb’d at every single distance from 5k right up to the marathon and deservedly ran another best time on Sunday over the marathon distance.

Paul’s effort was only just out shadowed by this weeks “Run of the week” which comes from Sam Gilliver who stopped the clock in a highly impressive 2.27hrs to go to the top of the Team Blizard rankings on time over the marathon in which was about the final long race of the year and caps off what has been a best ever marathon set of results since the clinic opened.

Just a few more weekends of racing until we start another year and let’s keep this momentum going for the final few weeks.

Until next week…….keep training!
