Team Blizard Race Report

It might be a day later than usual but this week’s race report delivers with results what is misses being a day late!

We have a full mixture of races to report from and thanks to everyone who took the time to message in with their results as it really helps to keep on top of things as there are so many of you all flying currently!

Kicking off the report we start with a couple of shorter races to record with first up being Alice Fearn who ran a brand new  personal best over 1500m in the Trafford open track meeting and is rounding into some great form just at the right time and Leeds Ac athlete Jonathan Stewart who blasted a fast mile up in Middlesboro!

Changing surfaces to trail saw the ever popular mid week race on Wednesday of the Scholes Coppice trail race where there were fine runs from both Sarah Sanderson and Wayne Singleton to name two of the eye catching runs.

Another couple trail races to mention were the Leeds based Apperley Bridge and Sherwood Forest 10k where Aaron Lowery made his return to racing after a great London marathon while over in Nottinghamshire in the Sherwood event we saw one of Coach Tune’s longest serving coaching athletes Brenda King have a great run.

Slightly longer event in the Wolds Way relay covering 79 miles saw Scaraboro take the team win with regular Blizard Run Club athlete Andrew Hopper run the glory leg for his club to lift the winning shield!

Staying over on the east coast saw coached athlete Keri Pearson have a fine run to record her fastest 10k in over 5 years in the Leven 10k road race.

Changing from running to triathlon it was great to see Emma Smith make a welcome return to racing after a lengthy injury and compete to take 2nd place overall in her age group which is some achievement for someone who can’t really swim!!!

Another athlete in fine form was coached runner Shaun Johnson who showed he is another athlete that has recorded well from his spring marathon personal best to run his fastest time as a V40 in the No Walk In The Park 5k where he was running with another of our training partners who is in good form in Peter Twigg from Clowne Road Runners.

Hot weather greeted the athletes on Sunday for the ever popular and fast Grimsby 10k where there were fine runs from Giles Serlby, Callum Ely, Elle Warren, Dean Thomas, and Michael Skelton to name a few.

A special mention in that race needs to go to athletes that came to Portugal this year us in Tracey Gibson who took the V60 title but also Gill Coulson who completed her first race in over 5 years and is testament of her attitude to comeback.

However, this week’s ‘Run of the Week” goes to another Portugal attendee in Seth Kirby who raced on the track over 3000m over the weekend at Nottingham and recorded a new personal best of 9.15mins and arguably having his best ever run since the first time he came to the clinic and joined our community over 5 years ago…well done that man.

Just another fantastic week of results and long may they continue….until next week……keep training!
