Team Blizard Race Report

Well, once again we have a jam packed week of action for you all to read up about.
There are currently so many races taking place and we thank all of you who have taken the time to mail in your results as it really does help when we put the report together!
Week after week the common theme taking place is a rich vein of quality performances from all of you and a massive well done to each and everyone of you who raced.

Kicking off the week we saw the ever  popular Elmton Chase take place and there was a fine return to racing for ever present training partner to many of you in Rob Shoreson finishing close to the top of the field and his run was backed up by fast improving and recent lactate test athlete Phil Hare who was using the race for a bit of speed before going into marathon mode.

Changing surfaces to the track we saw two fine performances firstly from Leeds athlete Jonathan Stewart running fine 1500 over at Trafford while more locally on the Barnsley track Portugal bound Matty Bell only went and won the 1500 and came 3rd in the 400m to make a good day in the office!

The next two races to report from were mainly off road where Seth Kirby made light work of the Hope Wakes fell race and our very own Becky Friar won herself a nice bottle of wine in the Valley Hill 5 mile race ( don’t be giving coach Dave that one )!

Back onto the road and we saw another step forward back to full fitness after her foot operation for Yvonne Scarrot in the Stamford 5k while a little further north up in Newcastle coached athlete Paul Massey enjoyed the Great North 10k and showed he is in great shape for some big targets later in the year.

Caistor “sting in the tail” 10k is so called for a reason and the hills in this tough 10k puts any chance of a fast time well out of everyone’s reach.
That said we saw some great performances from the guys from Cleethorpes who continue to support the clinic in Danny James leading the training group home in a fine 2nd place overall and he was chased home by the prolific racer Callum Ely, Mike Skelton, Spencer Higgins and Dean Thomas to name a few who had eye catching runs.

The final race to report from is the Withernsea 5 mile road race held on the east coast on a super fast course.

This week’s “Run of the week” goes to regular Friday night Blizard Run club attendee and regular training partner in Askern’s Jody Murray.
Jody has worked really hard on his strength and conditioning over the last couple of years and hardly any Friday night’s go by without him being on the live class. This work has paid off as no longer is he stuck in a cycle of running then injury but he is actually running pb after pb and fully deserves this week’s special mention.

Once again, well done to everyone who raced and we are looking forward to another bumper 7 days ahead……until then keep training!
