Team Blizard Race Report

Although the title of this is Team Blizard race report it could easily be made into the “Doncaster 10k race report” with so many of the community racing the excellently organized event by Jono and his team from Curly’s Athletes.

There were however other couple of races to report from before we go all in with the Doncaster round up!
Taking place on Friday and Saturday we saw the first round of this winter’s indoor track races where coached athletes Seth  Kirby, Becky Middleton and Chris Keeler all worked their fast twitch fibers in a series of races with Chris even taking a “win” over 400m which shows incredible range for a man who less than a year ago raced an off road ultra race!

Moving into Sunday morning and perfect conditions greeted the almost 3000 runners who toed the startline just outside the famous racecourse grandstand.
It really is impossible to mention everyone who raced as of last count we totalled up over 200 of the community slipped into racing shoes to run on the super fast course that highlights Doncaster and is becoming one of the “go to” races to run a fast time.
Cleethorpes athlete Danny James was the first of the community home in an excellent 6th place and claiming a new personal best which will set him up nicely ahead of a big 2024 for him.

He was backed up by simply a host of excellent runs and new personal best times from Jacob Clarke, Dave Sedgewick, Rome Doisneau, Lee Davies, Shaun Carley,Rob Barnes, Andy Teasdale, Nathan Doy, Robbo and Marti Whitehouse to mention just a few of the regular training partners who turn out every training session to help each other out.

Not to be out done by the boys the girls had a great morning of racing as well with eye catching runs from Alice and Tracey Fearn, our very own Jenny Blizard in her first race since her 3rd place in the Yorkshire marathon, Portugal bound Ruth Muir running a new personal best along with fellow Portugal attendee Tracey Gibson and an excellent run from North Derbyshire athlete Sam Illiffe.

There were several contenders for “Run of the Week” and coming close all having raced to new personal bests were Carl Harrington, Rob Milner and Kev Geer but this award this week goes to a popular training partner who smashed his personal best to squeeze under the 32mins barrier for the first time in Lee Varley.
Lee is a shining example of someone who initially came down to training a few years ago and wasn't running particularly fast but has stuck to the process week in and week out and always not only gives his all in training but helps to encourage those around him too.
Well done that man and the first round of drinks are on you at the xmas do!

Next week is going to be another busy weekend with the local Percy Pud 10k and also the super fast Valencia marathon where we have several runners but until next week…..keep training!
