Team Blizard Race Report

With marathon season quickly arriving, many of the athletes attended our final marathon paced session at the weekend but there was still some great action out on the roads up and down the country.

The first event to report from was the Welsh duathlon championships and fresh from his successful raid in Italy last weekend our very own “Robbo” Roberts made light work of difficult windy conditions to gain a silver medal in the V50 age group!

Taking the  biking away the next race to report from was the ever popular Ashby 20 mile road race.
Over the years many people have used this race as they prepare for a spring marathon and this once again was the case for, and putting in sterling performances were Clowne athlete Giles Searby, Mark Lawton and North Derbyshire athlete Shaun Johnson.
A mention also needs to go to regular training partner within the team in Tom Shaw who used the race to see how his year is progressing as he is not doing a marathon this spring but ran a new personal best and came in 7th position overall and taking almost 2 minutes of his previous best time.

A mention needs to go to York athlete Vivianne Fraser who was using the Hell on the Humber event for her last long run before tapering for the marathon and managed 22 miles over and back on the Humber Bridge!

The Wingerworth Wobble trail race provided happy hunting ground for Seth Kirby and he came in 2nd place overall!

Held on the same day and on a brutal course designed to smash your quads coming down the hill is the Sheffield half marathon!
Our very own Matt Hamer made light work of the hills the day after our marathon session, now that is a tough weekend of training!
There was many fine runs and the stand out ones came from Dan Smith, Stuart Carrick and Rachel McCluskey who were all using the race as part of marathon training.
However, this week’s “Run of the week” goes to a long time supporter of the clinic/training partner/coached athlete in Sarah Lowery.
Sarah was using the race as preparation as she aims towards the London marathon and managed to finish 2nd lady overall with a great run while deep in marathon mode.

Well done to everyone who raced this weekend and thank you for sending in your results as it really does help us pull them all together.
