Race Report 25th April 2022

race report Apr 25, 2022

We have a very varied “Race Report” for you this week guys where once again we saw some fantastic performances from the athletes of Team Blizard. Friday evening saw the running of the ever popular Even Splits 5k over in York where both Sue Crabtree and Vivanne Fraser were using as a sharpening session and both performed really well on the cycling circuit. Saturday saw the National Master road relay championships held over in Sutton Park, Birmingham where many athletes were turning out for their club. A fine run was had by Rotherham’s duo of Chris Griffiths and Steve Marshall as they both round into to really good form while Leeds AC athlete Jon Stewart helped his team take the overall win with his 2nd leg effort. Staying on Saturday but changing the sport from running to Duathlon, Clumber Park held a qualifying race for the European age group championships and the team was represented by ever present member of the training group Robbo who had a great race just missing out on automatic qualification. Moving into Sunday and more locally to us saw the Yorkshire Wildlife 5/10k race where the father and son duo of Dave and Lee Varley placed highly in their respective races. It also welcomed a return to racing from Max Polson as his comeback continues after a few years away from the racing scene, well done that man!

One of the great success stories of the last 18 months continues from Sheffield athlete Seth Kirby as he finished 3rd in the Cat Lane Canter race to add to his ever growing impressive running pbs.

Stepping up in distance to the full marathon the last two races we have to mention are firstly Worksop athlete Tom Shaw who ran a fine 2.35hrs in the Wrexham Elite marathon over in Wales to mark the rest period in what has been a very successful last few months of racing for Tom and now he can have a well deserved break!

Our final race to report and the winner of our “Run of the week” goes to Clowne Road Runner Malc Stapleton who competed in the Vienna marathon. Tracing in the footsteps of Eluid Kipchoge who ran his sub 2hrs marathon in the city Malc not only ran a new personal best but edged ever closer to that elusive sub 3hrs that him and coach Dave have been working towards as he stopped the clock a fraction short in 3.00.55hrs to place 6th in the V55 age group ( coach race report to follow ). Another fantastic week of results and thank you to everyone who sent their results in as it really help but try not to miss any. Until next week……keep training!
