Team Blizard Race Report

Pull up a chair, grab yourself a brew as this is a big report this week with so many of you racing up and down the country on a variety of surfaces covering many different distances.

Kicking the weekend off we saw the next round of the West Yorkshire cross country league take place near Rothwell where long time supporter of the clinic and local PT instructor Susie Hinchcliffe tackled the muddy undulating course making light work of another excellent  run.
Staying with cross country and a little nearer home was the next round of the South Yorkshire league on the very demanding Winterhills course.
With too many of the team to mention everyone individually is rounds it up nicely by saying a massive well done to all those who raced.

There were a couple of road races on Saturday to report from including the Wolverton 5 mile road race where coached athlete Keri Pearson was having her first run out since the Frankfurt marathon and came home 6th lady overall on this lighting fast course.

The Podium 5k proved a happy hunting ground for Portugal bound athlete Alice Fearn who ran an excellent race to record her 2nd fastest time ever over the distance.

Moving into Sunday and the action came thick and fast…firstly we saw Tickhill’s Chris Taylor show a welcome return to racing in the St Neot’s half marathon fresh from completing the live strength and conditioning class on Friday night!

The Derby 10 mile road race was an excellent final spin out for coached athlete Paul Massey who took over 2 minutes of his previous best time just as he now begins his taper for the Valencia marathon.

Moving a little further a field there was an eye catching performance from another Portugal bound athlete in Andrew Fleming who we disgracefully forgot to mention on his recent brilliant run in the New York marathon. Andrew backed this performance up with another oversea race in the NN Zeveheuveloop 15kk in Holland….that boy has some air miles as well as running miles!

A little nearer home saw the very well organized Clowne half marathon take place and two coached athletes shared the overall victory in Tom Shaw and Shane Grace, the latter using it as his final race before the upcoming Valencia marathon.

Great runs were also had by Matt Hamer and Stu Carrick to mention a couple.

The tough Tadcaster 10 mile road race proved no challenge to many of you and we saw great runs from Andrew Hopper, Vivianne Fraser, Matty Bell and a brand new personal best from Laith Flanagan to name a few of the eye-catching performances.

The penultimate race to mention was the local Gainsboro’ 10k which so many of you ran in.First home in “our gang” was Rome Doisneau closely chased home by Matt Harvey while a couple of eye catching performances to mention that stood out came from Carl Harrington who ran under 40mins for the very first time, Jayne Baldwin and Brenda King to mention just a couple of so many of you who ran.

The final race to mention and the one that takes this week’s “Run of the Week” goes to regular training partner Callum Parke who placed an excellent 3rd in the scenic Dambusters 10 mile race on Saturday. It was a welcome return to form after injuries to this athlete and we were delighted to see the result.

As always a massive well done to everyone who raced and sorry we cannot mention every single individual.
Next week is the local Doncaster 10k coming up so more results to follow and lets keep this going.
Until next week…..keep training!
