Race Report 20th June 2022

Jun 20, 2022

The whole of the country seems to be in the middle of a mini heatwave and the action from Team Blizard athletes this week certainly has been red hot too!

This week’s race report as a little bit of everything for us to read about over nearly every single type of race and surface but with one common theme which is outstanding performances!

Kicking off the week we saw the inform athlete Seth Kirby have another fine run in the Grindleford Fell race while over in Manchester Leeds athlete Jon Stewart showed he is rounding up into fine form ahead of the European Master’s track and field championships in a couple of weeks time with a superb 800m.

Another athlete tearing up the track is Rotherham Harrier and regular Blizard Run Club attendee Simon Oak who finished 7th the the British Vet 800 in his fastest time since before 2019, now that is some achievement and proves age is no barrier!

Friday proved a good day to race despite the heat over in York in the Even Splits 5k and there was a brand new pb for coached athlete Rome Doisneau and a great run from Wakefield’s Ashley Crow to show he is fully recovered since his recent marathon.

Market Deeping was the venue for our next race to mention in the form of the Green Wheel Relay and Eric Winstone put in a great performance in his first race since his England Master’s vest.

A little nearer home saw the ever popular 3 Lakes Classic trail race take place where there was a huge turnout of the training group with ultimately the overall win going to Worksop Harrier Tom Shaw who was chased down by Manvers athlete Dan Smith who came 2nd.

Notable runs were scored by Stuart Carrack,Steve Marshal and Callum Park while V50 crown was taken by Christain Hopkins, well done everyone!

The tough Penistone 10k proved a happy hunting ground for Sam Gilliver fresh from his fab run in the recent Edinburgh marathon as he took the overall win with recent lactate test Natalie Neville coming 2nd lady overall.

The final two races to report from were over in Derby where the RAM 5 mile and half marathon took place.

There was a superb V60 3rd place from coached athlete Paul Massey and a fine run from great supporter of the clinic Giles Searby of Clowne Road Runners.

However, “Run of the week” goes to Rotherham Harrier Michelle Harle in the half marathon as she took an incredible 7 full minutes off he best time.

Michelle has worked really hard on her strength and conditioning over the last few months and is now running times she could only dream of previously and it is well deserved!

Massive well done everyone and until next week…..keep training!
