Race Report 1st November 2022

Nov 01, 2022
Bumper race report coming inbound!

Once again just when you think the results cannot get much better……they do from the athletes of Team Blizard.
We have several distances and surfaces to report from but the common theme running through the whole report is the successful results that just never stop coming in!

Firstly , let’s report from the two cross country races taking place over the weekend in the South and West Yorkshire league matches that were held respectively on Sunday.
Over in Wakefield Susie Hinchcliffe dropped down in distance to have a fine run in her league while over in Barnsley at Cannon Hall held the South Yorkshire version of the race.
The are too many individuals to mention but we saw an eye catching performance from recent lactate tested lady in Abbie Pearse taking the ladies win on the undulating grassland course and a welcome return to racing from the other half of the Hinchcliffe family from Mark of Askern Running club.

Moving up in distance and onto the road saw several 10k races including the Lincoln,Brigg and Wistow 10k road races all taking place on Sunday.
The Brigg 10k provided happy hunting ground once again for regular training partner to many of you in Lee Varley who came a fine 6th place overall while great runs were had by Rob Barnes, marathon man Mike Skelton and Chris Inman fresh from his awards evening for Gainsboro over the weekend to name a few people.
Many of the training crew used the fast but often windy Wistow 10k held near Selby for an autumn blast out.
The first person to mention and just missing out on “run of the week” was the mega Rome “Mega” Doisneau who’s great form continues as he took the overall win hitting the front only in the final 800m. It was great to see one of our most loyal training partners Dave Sedgwick in his last race in this age cat have a great run to come second to Rome while Shane Grace, Nat Warwick all having fine runs and regular on our Friday night Blizard Run Club Strength and Conditioning class Jody Murray showing his hard work is paying off as he smashed his old personal best.
Several of the St Theresa's club athletes used this race to test their form and it was good to see coached athlete Ruth Muir claim a fine 4th place in the ladies race while Ian Maudsley and Nigel Fuller both ran fine races.

With the 10k races out of the way we next move up to the half marathon distance with the Leicester and Worksop races to take note from.
Over in Leicester Sheffield athlete Mark Lawton ran a fine race while in Worksop it was great to see Seth Kirby bounce back to a new personal best after his marathon and a welcome return to racing from Michael “Whole” Grain from Barnsley.
Adrian Hopkinson’s powers of recovery were put to the test after his recent Ironman triathlon as he powered to a new personal best on the undulating course as did Sheffield’s Adam Connelly.
However, ‘Run of the week” this time goes to Askern athlete Joe Restell over in the Frankfurt marathon as he totally smashed his old personal best to stop the clock in a well deserved new personal best of 2.51hrs.
Joe is a regular down with the training group and often will help out pacing with groups and totally deserved the run of the week as well as a few post race beers!

Just writing this report is very motivating and well done to each and everyone who raced this weekend even if we did not mention everyone individually.
Until next week….keep training!
