Team Blizard Race Report

It has been another super busy week/weekend of action around the country and abroad from the athletes of Team Blizard community.

Kicking off the week we saw coached athlete Scott Burrell make a welcome return to racing as he completed the “Friday Night Under the Lights” 5k down in Battersea Park running just short of his lifetime personal best and an exciting few months are ahead of him.

Dropping down even further in distance to the mile saw Scottish  based athlete Freddie Fearn run a very swift 4.34mins in a competitive road mile up in Edinburgh.

For the first time that we can remember the rearranged English National cross country took place after it was unable to be held earlier in the year on its usual slot.
There were so many athletes to name the all but well done to all those who raced with a fantastic 4th place overall in the Senior Ladies race to the Leeds athlete Jen Walsh and her coach Phil Townsend.

Staying with the offroad theme another athlete who has been in fine form all summer in the shape of Seth Kirby backed up his excellent run in the “National” the day before making light work in the Tibberton Trot 10k and taking the overall win.

Half marathon racing is in full swing and we have several races to report from.
The first was the Copenhagen half marathon where we saw coached athletes Alex McKenzie and Paul Massey both enjoying great runs and a special mention to Bill Taylor coached athlete Ed Buck who made his England debut and ran a fine race and recorded a new personal best in the process.

We had so many of you all running in both the tough Big Dipper half over in Sheffield and also the flatter Humber Coastal half over in Cleethorpes with some many of the guys using it as marathon training leading into their A race in a few weeks time.
There really are too many to mention everyone individually but an eye catching one that deserves a special mention came from Ackworth’s Richard Burke!
However, this weeks “Run of the Week” goes to Wolds Vets athlete Tracey Gibson who on Saturday took the British Master’s V60 5km track championship title.

Tracey has battled back from being injured and just goes from strength to strength and regularly travels over from her home on the east coast to attend training on a Wednesday and Saturday with the group and is a shinning example to us all.
Another fantastic week of results and until next week…..keep training!
