Race Report 17th October 2022

Oct 18, 2022
This week’s race report once again shows us all what a great running community we have as results up and down the country and abroad all carry the same theme of people wanting to be the best they can be through their performances.

The first race to report from was the first of the South Yorkshire cross country league matches which saw the return of cross country racing!
Held over the undulating course at Norfolk Park we saw great runs from Becky Friar in the ladies event and  training group members Gav Edley, Jody Murray and Tom Shaw to name just a few of the guys who were racing.

Next race up was the Yorkshire 10 mile road race being held on the same day as the marathon and in tough conditions we saw an excellent run for 7th place overall go to Scarboro’ athlete Rome Doiseau while Kyle Audsley showed that his preparation for two marathons next year are well under way with his performance.

Moving up slightly in distance to the half marathon a special mention needs to go to long time supporter of the clinic Eric Winstone who completed the Great Eastern run.
Nothing fancy there I hear you say! Well there is as firstly Eric’s training since his England Master’s international vest has had to be confined to mainly biking and swimming with a niggle so to get round was an achievement. On top of that Eric yesterday completed the event for the 30th and every single time the race has been run and is the only person to hold this title and something we all should applaud.

Moving onto the full marathon distance and over the North Sea to Amsterdam where another athlete from Scarboro’ and regular on the Blizard Friday night Run Club strength and conditioning class was Andrew Hopper who produced a great run stopping the clock in 3.08hrs.
Same distance just different venue saw many of the training team aim this autumn's efforts toward the Yorkshire marathon.

Starting and finishing in York and taking in the undulations of the surrounding villages, this is a testing course but also exposed to the elements which it was on Sunday.
We had a fantastic “day in the office” with great runs from Mike Skelton on his debut, Seth Kirby setting a new personal best, Lee Milburn a brave run trying to win from the front and taking 7th place overall, Chris Griffiths, our very own Tracey West and coach Dave all having fine runs to secure their England Masters vest for next year.

May be an image of 6 people, people standing, outdoors and text that says 'FINISH 3168 3611'
However, there is a joint “Run of the Week” this time round that goes to two coached athletes in Sarah Lowery and Keri Pearson.
Sarah was running her first marathon for a few years and chased hard over the last few hundred metres to just miss out on the overall win by 5 seconds having been told the leader was over two minutes ahead with a couple of miles to go only to turn the final corner and catch sight of her!
Blizard sponsored athlete Keri Pearson also had an amazing run to go one place better than last year to take 3rd place giving the team two athletes in the first three in the ladies event.
Keri’s performance was made even more remarkable knowing that she had been ill all week leading into the race and only decided to race after she had done her warm up!

Massive well done to everyone who raced and long may this rich vein of form continue.
Until next week…….keep training!
