Race Report 16th May 2022

May 16, 2022

This weekend we saw temperatures soar which matched the performances we had with the Team Blizard athlete's up and down the country.

The first races to cover were on the track as this weekend is the traditional date for the county championships track and field.

Down in the Surrey championships Alex Mackula showed a great turn of pace to run a new personal best over 800m while nearer to home Leeds athlete Jonathan Stewart turned back the clock to take the bronze medal in the Senior Men’s 1500m which is no mean achievement for this V40 athlete.

We have two half marathons to report from this weekend the first one being the hilly Eyam event where there was a fine run from Sheffield’s Natalie Neville who took 3rd place overall and first V40. While Seth Kirby posted another solid performance as his great form continues.

The other half marathon to mention was “Super Vet” Eric Winstone who placed an excellent 4th V70 in the Chester half marathon while earning his first ever England Master’s vest.

Well done Eric you fully deserve this moment.

The Copenhagen marathon saw two sponsored athletes competing and their separate race report will follow but big respect to both Tom Halloway and Matt Hamer who both raced well.

Grim Up North was a 15 mile trail race that York athlete Vivianne Fraser only went and won!

Jody Murray pulled a great performance out to show he is fully over his injury issues.

The final two races to mention were over the traditional 10k distance.

First up was the Pontefract 10k where training partner Andy Teasdale showed he is fully recovered from his fine Manchester marathon as he posted a fast time.

The final race we add to this race report is the very tough Rotherham 10k which although has a fast start it does have a very tough finish due to the surrounding hills!

Team Blizard athletes were well to the fore as fine runs were had by Lee Varley, Stuart Carrick, Dan Smith and Peter Twigg while Steve Marshal took the V45 1st place.

However, “Run of the Week” and totally deserved goes to ever present training partner/coach/encourager and all round decent bloke Dave “Disco” Sedgwick who came in 4th overall in a new personal best.

Even more impressive is that this is Dave’s first race for 26 months and a new personal best that dates back to 2014!

Now that is some going!

Massive well done to everyone who raced and let’s keep these great performances going….until next week keep training!
