Team Blizard Race Report

The marathon season is almost upon us but there has been plenty of action over a variety of distances over the last 7 days where the members of the Team Blizard community have once again excelled!

So sit down, grab yourself a brew and read on as we go through another set of fantastic results.

Kicking the week off, we saw the Battersea Under The Lights 5K take place, where coached athlete Tom Whitley had a great return to form after a few weeks of injury  to run a very fast time and bodes well for some Autumn races he is targeting.

Staying down south we saw one of the “teams” most popular members in Scott Burrell take part in the Kent AC meeting over in Catford where not only did he run a new track 5000 personal best but took the race win as well!

Keeping with the 5k distance the ever popular York 5k took place on Friday evening and it was great to see training partner to many of you Matt Whitewood smash his personal best time and was a great reflection of the hard work he has been putting in.

Same race saw coached athlete Kev Walker set a new personal best time and take the V50 1st place as he shapes up for the World Masters championships in Madeira next month.

Upping the distance to 10k saw the ever popular Wetherby 10k take place and a man in form Richard Burke once again pulled in a fine performance.
The Ackworth running club have been great supporters of the clinic and so many of you took part in the Wakefield Park run and then the club handicap race the next day but there are simply too many of you to mention so well done to you all.

Moving up distances to the half marathon and the super fast Copenhagen half marathon took place on Sunday in heavy rainfall and once again former “work experience boy” Cam Reilly proved he is a man in form as he set a new personal best of 65mins.

This performance was matched by coached athlete Jamie Baker who took 3 minutes off his best half marathon time and ran a new personal best as we use this race as a stepping stone to the Cardiff half in a few weeks time.

Next event to report from is a bit of a curve ball but we feel it needs a mention as long time testee Ed Bradley firstly use lactate threshold testing to help in his first love which is motocross which he reached an extremely high level and then for his coached riders he brought to the clinic to help improve their fitness.
Ed over the last few years has taken up rowing and lactate testing and training is nothing new in this sport and we are delighted to report that over the weekend in Bonyoles, Spain Ed claimed not one but 2 Gold medals in the World Masters championships and we are truly delighted for him!

The final race to report from took place in Edinburgh in the Flat and Fast 5k where Alice Fearn ran well just before she begins university in the city but she was outdone my her mum Tracey who ran an extremely good race to take her 3rd on the UK V55 rankings with a time of 19.00mins and take this week’s “Run of the Week”.

A massive well done to everyone who raced and as always thank you to everyone who sent in their results as it really helps us to pull them all together.
Until next week…..keep training!
