Team Blizard Race Report

We have another bumper race report to share with you of all the positive racing you guys have been doing over a variety of distances and surfaces during the last week.
Grab a brew, pull up a chair and read away!

We start this week’s race report with a trail race that took place mid week in the Roche Abbey trail race where many of the local running community were taking part in.With so many of you running we can never mention everyone but there was an eye  catching run from Sarah Sanderson as she begins her training that will lead to the Berlin marathon in September.
Staying with the off road theme we saw Scarborough athlete Andrew Hopper smash the Newcastle 55 mile Ultra race that started and finished in the city centre!

With the weather beginning to get a little warmer it is always a good time to work on that speed and there were several shorter races to cover.

Firstly, we saw rising star Alice Fearn run in the English Schools track and field championships in Birmingham and was part of the race that saw Paula Radcliffe’s long standing Senior Girls 3000m record get broken.

There were two 5k road races taking place on Friday in the Even Split York 5k where we saw the ladies Elle Warren and Vivianne Fraser give great accounts of themselves on the cycle track.
A little nearer home was the next race in the excellent DonFaster 5k where many of the team were racing.

Top of the pile came Portugal athlete Danny James who was closely followed by a massive new pb from Wayne Singleton. Other notable performances came from Nathan Doy, Michael Skelton, Peter Twigg, Aaron Lowery and the Ackworth duo of Rob Milner and Richard Burke. Well done to all those who raced and this event is growing and great to see.

Same distance but on Saturday was the next round of the No Walk in the Park 5k at Chesterfield and coached athlete Shaun Johnson carried on his great form that saw him pb in the half marathon only a few weeks ago.

There were also several 10k races held in the last few days and we are going to cover these.
Derby athlete Paul Massey had a day out in London racing the London 10k while Sam Gilliver raced well in the Wilmslow 10k.

A little closer to home were the Walkington 10k and Curly’s athletes 10k races where there were some eye catching performances from Callum Ely and Tracey Gibson while Chris Inman, Oliver Fleetwood and Brett Silvester all raced well over in Scunthorpe.

However, this week's “Run of the Week” goes to Leeds based coached athlete Ruth Muir who despite juggling a busy life managed to only go and win the Stocks Lane Stinger race on Sunday and set her up well for a few races in the months ahead.

A massive well done to everyone who races and thank you to all those who have sent in your race results as these really help us pull all the data together.
Until next week…..keep training!
