Mar 18, 2022

This week’s race report has a mixture of all surfaces and distances for you all to celebrate the achievements you all have produced.
Many thanks to all those who filled in our online results sheet. It really helps us capture all the results as there are so many of you to cover!

First couple events to mention are over the grass in cross country races that took place on Saturday. Firstly, the Yorkshire Master cross country championships took place in Sheffield and there were fine run from Rotherham’s Chris Griffiths as he used the race as training towards a spring marathon and from Kimmy Striders duo of Chris Keeler and Lee Weatherall over what was a very testing course.
The next cross country race to mention was the Inter-Counties championships over in Loughboro” where athletes from all over the UK were representing their own county.
Leading the charge was our very own Lee Milburn running for Yorkshire while Tom Shaw and Gary Couzens both ran in the race for the first time gaining their first county vest….well done guys.

Moving into Sunday and onto the road saw the action come thick and fast.
We have a big shout out for York athlete Vivianne Fraser who completed the Enigma marathon while there was some eye-catching performanced over in the Dronfield 10k on what is a tough course including another solid run from North Derbyshire’s Shaun Johnson.

The super fast Thirsk 10 mile road race saw a welcome return to racing for coached athlete Steve Melber while Scarboro’ Rome Doisneau ran yet another personal best in windy conditions.
Popular training team member Sue Crabtree used the race as a final session ahead of the up and coming Manchester marathon and is rounding into good form just when it matters.

The final two races to mention are/were over the 20 mile distance where Nicola Devine made light work of the lady’s race to take the Yorkshire 20 mile title in the Spen 20 while over in the Oundle 20 Derby athlete Paul Massey was using it as a long run ahead of the Brighton marathon in a few weeks.

However, “Run of the week” goes to Clown athlete Malc Stapleton who took the V55 win in the same race and just a week after running a new personal best in the Retford half marathon….well done that man!
