Team Blizard Race Report

In another week of very hot conditions the action in the races this last week matched that of the weather as it was…red hot!

Many thanks to all those who took the time to send in their individual results which we really appreciate as there are so many of you racing up and down the country each week to keep track of you all!

Massive well done to all those who raced and let’s try and do a re-cap of who did what on a variety of surfaces and distances!

The were several mid week races taking place this weekend and one that seems to be gaining in popularity was the Sheffield Relays held on the Loxley Lash circuit where so many of you took part in a variety of distances so a massive well done to you all as it is impossible to mention everyone as there was so many of you!

The long standing Spencer Arms Dash was another race that was well attended from Team Blizard and sadly with recent housing developments it is not clear how much longer this long established fixture will continue for but well done to all those you raced.

The Barlow nearly 10k was a race where many of the North Derbyshire running club members who very kindly support the clinic ran in and we saw an eye catching run from Matt Taylor as the perfect run before he commences marathon mode again!

The very hot weather saw running conditioning on Friday night for this month’s round of the York 5k very tough but a man in form and producing another great run was coached athlete Richard Burke who took the V50 3rd place in a very good time despite the conditions.

Staying with the same distance but jumping onto a different surface we saw another excellent run and win in a track 5000m from Worksop Harrier Tom Shaw as his good form continues.

The Ilkley half marathon and 5k took place on Sunday and there was a great run from Tim Watkiss in the 5k while having to suffer the hot weather in the half marathon we still saw great performances from Jamie Baker,Mark Bly and Portugal attendees Jo and Richard Burke making light work of the hot conditions after their acclimation earlier in the year!

The Sting Challenge over in Caistor saw Dean Thomas carry on his good form in this hilly event which he made light work of and his success earlier in the year at the marathon has certainly helped.

The super fast Wilmslow 10k saw Cleethorpes athlete Mike Skelton notch another great performance as his good form continues.

Vitoria in Spain was the scene for the Ironman triathlon and coached athlete Colin Storrar took an amazing 40 minutes off his previous best performance but vowed “never again” straight after! If anyone unsure how to celebrate Colin has included his picture of his refreshments straight after the race and yes both those drinks are his!

The final race to report from was the Newcastle half marathon run from the Newcastle Falcons rugby ground and part of the Run Through Events series.
Our very own Coach Tune traveled up for pacemaking duties for his daughter Romany who was targeting the race.
She managed with some excellent pace making taking 2nd lady place overall in a new personal best and winning this week’s title of “Run of the Week”!

A massive well done to everyone and let’s keep this excellent form going and it is great to see from everyone.
Until next week……keep training!
