Race Report 12th December 2022

Dec 12, 2022

It is a very shortened version of our weekly race report with so many events falling foul to the bad weather over the weekend.

We may have missed out of the numbers of people racing but those who did race more than made up for it.

Kicking the weekend off and one race that survived the cold snap was the West Yorkshire cross country league over in Rothwell near Leeds where Leeds AC athlete Jon Stewart had his first outing over the cross country and finished a fine 10th position.

Sunnier climates were the next venue in the form of the Malaga half marathon where coached athlete Scott Burell used the race as part of a mini warm weather training trip to run his 3rd fastest time ever over the half marathon distance while using the race as a training run!

A little cooler half marathon was held on Sunday around the lake at Holme Pier Point in Nottingham  and a recent lactate threshold tested athlete Laura Robinson just missed out on the run of the week as she came 3rd place overall in the half marathon and broke her previous personal best from 7 years ago!

The final race to report from was the super fast Telford 10k which doubled up as the Inter-Area match.

The race is held in a country park and uses a disused railway line/path that provides a sheltered fast course even though it actually snowed yesterday!

Mike Skelton continued with his excellent form as he produced his 2nd fastest 10k and topped off what has been an excellent 2022 for him. However, “Run of the Week” goes to another Portugal bound athlete in Danny James who smashed his personal best to nip under 32 mins for the first time.

Until next week……keep wrapped up and keep training!
