Team Blizard Race Report

This weekend may have signaled the final ever race for Sir Mo Farah but the performances keep rolling in from the guy and girls of Team Blizard and long may they continue.

We have a MASSIVE race report from up and down the country with also a little oversea’s reporting thrown in for good measure so let’s get started!

First race to cover is the Aintree 10k which is help on the paths around the famous Grand National horse racing venue and coached athlete  David Butler “galloped” to an excellent time as he prepares for a half marathon in a few weeks time.

The oversea race to report from was the Stockholm half marathon where recent lactate test athlete Laith Flanagan who made little work of the travel as he posted one of his best ever times.
Sunday saw the running of several half marathons where we had runners competing not only against the clock and other runners but ultimately the weather also in what was a very hot weekend to race.

The Big Dipper half marathon in Sheffield provided one such test over a very challenging course but there still was plenty of quality about from Seth Kirby, Christian Hopkins and Stu Carrick to name a few who ran.

The Cheshire half marathon another fast race in the running calendar and Richmond based athlete Al Reid made the long trip down and across to race in very tough conditions.

This time of year it is always the Great North Run which takes place from Newcastle and follows huge crowds to the coast at South Shields.
Close to 60,000 runners took part this year and tough conditions paid price to super fast times but once again there we so many runners from our community taking part with too many to mention but some of the more standout performances came from: Simon Scully, Rome Doisneau, Aaron Lowery, Andy Kitchen, Matty Bell,Carl Harrington,Kyle Audsley, Rob Shoreson and ever present GNR athlete Andy Hopper who put his Portugal training to good use on what was avery hot day!

Same distance but different venue saw the Vale of York half marathon take place and once again several of the team were using the race as training towards their marathons in a few week’s time.
Pick of the crop was Chris Griffiths who took the V45 1st place, Susie Hinchcliffe,Simon Kendall, Mark Lawton who pb’d in tough conditions, while our very own sponsored team athletes of Keri Pearson, Jenny Blizard and Coach Tune all used the race as part of their long run this weekend.
Finally, on the same day and venue of the Vale of York 10k took place where we saw Lynette Banks run well, Andy Ely take the V50 1st place, Callum Ely place 3rd place overall.

However, this week’s “Run of the Week” goes to another coached athlete in the shape of Shane Grace who took the overall win in the 10k race and marks the start of a marathon mode preparation as we aim towards the Valencia event in December.

Massive well done to everyone who raced and long may it continue…….until next week keep training!
