Blizard Race Report

Back from sunnier shores and catching up with the action that has taken place over the last 7 days has not disappointed in any way as this excellent vein of forms continues and we have a bumper race report for you all with some excellent pictures!

The first race we want to mention is the excellently produced second edition of the DonFaster 5k held on the cycle track which as a company we are very happy to be involved with.
There really was some talent and  quality performances on show with pick of the crop coming from regular training partners in Lee Varley who smashed his personal best to take 3rd place overall, Lee Davies, Emma Smith, Shaun Carly all running new personal best while coached athlete Lydia Race took the ladies overall win from Olivia Burton and eye catching runs ahead of some longer races coming up from Callum Ely and Aaron Lowery and Jody Murray to name just a few.

Staying with the same distance the ever popular Curly’s Athlete’s Wildlife 5k took place on Sunday which once again proved to be happy hunting ground for the Varley family from both Lee and Dave both running superbly!

Saturday saw a different race in the Round Rotherham 50 mile multi terrain race which was run both as an individual event or as a team relay and proved to be ever popular!

The “No Walk in the Park” 5k over in Chesterfield took place and another athlete finding good form was Sam Gilliver who took the overall win.

Moving into Sunday and the Leeds event of the Morley 10k took place and Valencia marathon bound Elle Warren took 2nd place overall while in heavy training which is an excellent sign.

Same club in different countries saw several members of the St Thearsea’s club take part in both the Munich half and full marathon and there were some excellent results from Nigel Fuller, Ruth Muir and Lee Whitely.

While Dave and Jenny were training in Portugal a little further up the road in Lisbon the full and half marathon took place in very hot conditions and we were well represented in the half marathon by clinic supporter Andy Hopper from Scarboro’ and there was a new personal best from Doncaster athlete Karina Chadburne in the full marathon.

Staying with the marathon distance over in Chester saw the Home Counties match where Master athletes got the chance to represent their country.

Mike Brearley proudly pulled on his England vest as did an eye catching performance from Chris Griffiths who just missed run of the week with his performance taking 3rd place in the V45 age group as a less than perfect build up and ran superbly well.

However, this weeks “Run of the Week” goes to a longtime supporter of the clinic in the form of Simon “Ginger Flyer” Kendall with his performance in the Chicago marathon.
Simon will not mind me mentioning when we set his training plan many weeks ago he was unfit and miles away from being able to run let alone race a marathon.
This makes his amazing sub 3hrs performance of 2.56hrs even sweeter for him and enjoy some well deserved downtime until our next one!

We have a big week in from of the team with several races taking part so until our next instalment…..keep training!
