Team Blizard Race Report

And so, here goes on another bumper race report from the community of team blizard.
Just when you think the results cannot get any better…..they do! A massive well done to everyone who raced over the last 7 days with so many incredible performances for us to shout about!

Kicking the action off and to report a fine run from coached athlete Shane Grace in the Wistow 10k as he continues to build on his speed before going into marathon mode for a big race  later in the year.

Friday evening saw the first running of the excellent DonFaster 5k held on the fast cycle track in Doncaster and hosted by Danum Harriers.
There was great support from our training group which we believe is important for a local race when so many smaller races are being lost in the area and this is one we certainly hope will continue and grow in time.
At the sharp end of things it was great to see Sam Gilliver return to action with an excellent 3rd place overall while there was eye catching runs from Tom Shaw, James Fisher, Becky Friar, Emma Smith, Lydia Race and our very own Jenny Blizard to name a few of over 20 athletes from the group who raced and supported the event.

A special mention to Mansfield Harrier Steve Davies who continues to defy the odds after a recent heart scare and it’s hard to keep a good man down!

There were several 10k races on during the weekend and over in Manchester we saw Stu Carrick turn in a solid performance in the Wimslow 10k while nearer to home in the Curly’s athletes Normanby Hall 10k we saw prolific racer Callum Ely turn in another good performance and a mention to Brenda King who returned to racing.

Changing sports for a moment we need to mention the excellent performance from Adrian Hopkinson at the Holkham Outlaw triathlon which he completed with a niggle on his calf which took some doing!

Switching surfaces and events agin to track racing and we saw an excellent if not busy afternoon from both Portugal bound Matty Bell in the Northern league but also from our very own Jenny Blizard who raced over both 1500 and 3000 over in Hull for her club Rotherham Harriers.

The tough Eccup 10 mile road race is where we visit next to mention sponsored athlete Keri Pearson who ran a fine race and take the V35 1st place while our very own “Coach Tune” pulled on a racing vest in the first time in ages to land a solid performance which saw him take 2nd V50 in the race.

The final race to mention this week and one that takes the award of “Run of the Week” goes to Damian Worsdall in the JPMC Corporate challenge held in Battersea Park.
Long term injury has plagued this athlete and this return to racing shows just how much as a runner he has to give now he is injury free.

Once again well done to everyone who has raced and thank you for sending in your results as it really does help us to pull them all together.
Until next week…….keep training!
