Becoming an Ironman

Adrian Hopkinson Ironman Race Report
Firstly, thanks Dave for putting me a program together and being flexible around my work especially when it comes to travel. I set myself a goal of doing a half and full Ironman triathlon in just 7 days and without the coaching and structure this would have been possible.
I approached Dave for help because of his great reputation in the running world and although I consider myself a decent triathlon runner, I really had no structure and had never ran over 14 miles. What I found most useful is that we did the training in time and not distance. For example, a 40 minute run instead of 10k. Although simple, in training this was so important because prior to this I was going as fast as I could to get the training done. Without a doubt the structure prevented any injuries and also made me more relaxed. I have been on some of Dave’s training sessions also and being surrounded by some many great people and athletes was inspiring, they were tough but helped me grow as a runner.
Dave soon got to know my likes and dislikes from a training point of view and how to motivate me even though at the start the idea of running a marathon alone seemed impossible, never mind after a 2.4 mile swim and 122 mile bike leg. I finished the program in the best shape of my life and was able to fulfil my fitness goals in 2022. I will be back for more punishment (in the nicest possible way) next season!
Thank you Dave for helping me become an Ironman!
