Welcome to the first race report of 2022 which we all hope is going to be a bumper racing year for everyone.

The number of races to report on this week is fairly light as we think most people were busy working off those mince pies and sherry consumed over the festive period.

With simply too many Park Run’s to mention then the first race we want to report from was the ever popular Round Sheffield Run which consisted of plenty of uphill and down dale in muddy icy conditions.

Our very own sponsored athlete Matt Hamer made light work of the 15 mile event and showed he is on track to pick up where he left off last year within a full board of personal best performances.

Traditionally the first weekend in January holds host to the country cross country championships and the local Kiveton Park held host to the Yorkshire championships.

With heavy rain most of the week leading into Saturday the grass fields resembled a scene from the “Somme” as the runners were greeted by heavy mud in places which made for great watching even if the running was tough going!

There were far too many  Team Blizard athletes who were running for their respective clubs to mention everyone but great runs were had by Lee Milburn who celebrated gaining his first North of England vest call up for next weekend, former work experience athlete Cameron Reilly ,Nathan Doy who’s choice of footwear maybe needed rethinking before he does another race that muddy, Sheffield’s Seth Kirby and Kimmy strider Lee Weatherall.

However, “Run of the week” goes to Rotherham Harrier athlete Becky Friar who made light work of the mud to record her best run since she came back to the sport and also won a bronze team medal!

Starting next week the races come thick and fast so hold on and look forward to next week’s instalment and until then……keep running!
