Bumper race report coming up!

This week’s race report covers a full range of distances both domestically and abroad but the same theme “runs” true with a host of excellent performances.

The first race to mention that took place on Saturday is the Tissington trail half marathon where great support of the clinic Giles Searby from Clowne Road Runners turned in a great performance.
Staying with Saturday we saw a welcome return to racing from Notts AC athlete Marti Whitehouse who  helped her team in the Midland Road Relay championships held in Sutton Park.
The Northern version of these relays were held on Sunday around the Manchester City football ground starting and finishing on the running track close by.
Several of our athletes were using the relays to sharpen up for forthcoming marathons and great runs were had by Rotherham athletes Lee Milburn and Chris Griffiths while Sheffield athletes Seth Kirby and Sam Giliver also showed a good turn of speed while in marathon mode.
Moving into another country in Germany we saw the first of this season's marathons take place in Berlin. To be part of the history making world record must have been very special.
Regular training partner to many of us Chris Ward had a fantastic run considering his build up to break 3hrs and equally impressive was Scunthorpe runner Simon Wilson who ran 3.40hrs in his very first attempt at the distance.

Dropping right back in distance to the 10k we saw two races to mention. The first was the Bristol 10k which doubled as an England representative match. Tracey Fearn gained her first ever England Master’s vest but had to pull out around half way with a niggle but we know she will bounce back quickly while evergreen Eric Winstone gained his second England vest as he represented his country in the V70 category.

Coached athlete Paul Massey from Derby used this race as some speedwork as we prepare for the Valencia marathon in December and was rewarded with a brand new personal best to show we are right on track!

The other 10k was a lot more local in the Sheffield 10k. Former athlete turned cyclist turned athlete again Rob Barnes stopped the clock in a brand new personal best and expect to see his name more in race reports to come while sponsored athlete Matt Hamer showed a welcome return to form after illness.
The final two races to mention were over the half marathon distance with the first race being the Nottingham half marathon.

Training partner/duathlete Robbo” Roberts not only measured the course but also flew round in a quick time only to be out done by coached athlete Sarah Lowery who used this race as a warm up for her forthcoming marathon and only went and won the ladies race!

The final race to mention and the one where we have decided to give a joint “Run of the week” award is at the Humber Bridge half marathon.
Both Keri Pearson and Shane Grace used the race as a final workout ahead of upcoming marathons.
Not only did they both run well but only went and won the overall race to give coach Dave both winners of the race on the testing course over in Hull.
As always a massive well done to everyone who has raced and thank you for sending in your results as it really helps us!
Until next week……..keep training!
