Blizard Race Report Round Up - 28th January 2022

Jan 31, 2022
Sponsored Team Athlete Keri Pearson

Welcome to our latest Team Blizard race report that saw athletes up and down the country racing over a variety of surfaces and distances!

The first three races we are going to cover are over the cross country as initially Saturday saw the Area cross country championships take place where athletes from all over the North, South and Midlands have their own championship events.

Over the grass park land of Berry Hill, Mansfield saw Portugal bound athlete Marti Whitehouse putting in her best performance to date and a timely confidence boost ahead of a week away in the sunshine in the Midland championships.

The Pontefract race course held host to the Northern championships and there were fine runs from Tommi Baker of Salford, Sheffield’s Seth Kirby and an eye catching run from our very own sponsored athlete Lee Milburn who finished in a highly respectable 17th position overall on what was a very windy day.

Same surface different day saw the next round of the Inter-Club cross country match at Killamarsh and a fresh pair of heels to the whole field was shown by Worksop athlete Tom Shaw who is certainly benefiting from doing some regular sessions with the team.

Sunday saw the return of the famous Ferriby 10 mile road race over in Hull and almost perfect conditions greeted the runners compared to those who raced the day before.

Another Portugal bound athlete Kris Lecher led the field home with a superb run and this was backed up with equal quality by Richard Bugg, Lee Varley, Gay Couzens and Tony Gough to name a few of the guys who smashed their personal best times.

Our very own “Coach Dave” showed his training is progressing with a timely reminder to the training group not to take the mickey out of him too much as he gets a little fitter!

Not to be outdone by the boys the girls ran really well too with a fab run from York athlete Vivianne Fraser who just missed her personal best, coached athlete Keri Pearson smashed her previous best time while training group member Nicola Devine like Kris took the overall win just falling short of the course record which survives another year and is held by our very own Jenny Blizard.

The “Run of the week” however this week goes to Lee Milburn with his performance in the Northern championships which really was very good.

A big race report next week with many of the athletes doing the Dewsbury 10k so until next week…….keep training!
