Physiotherapy advice blog

More than half of UK adults live with unnecessary pain rather than seeking help from qualified health professionals, such as physiotherapists, a survey by Nuffield Health has shown.
The survey, carried out on 2000 adults shows that 45% are in pain at least once a week, rising to almost three quarters experiencing pain at least once a month. Of these in pain, over 77% said it had a negative effect on their everyday life.
Despite this, 59% did not seek help from health professionals.
People are as likely to turn to the internet for advice, with young people between the ages of 16 and 24 years being five times more likely to self diagnose that to see a trained professional for help.
It is common for physiotherapists to see people who have done more harm than good by trying to deal with a pain themselves, or by not doing anything at all.
Research suggests that there could be serious long term implications of failing to act, including an over- reliance on pain medication.
Don’t ignore your body’s warning signs.
